When Darwin met Patañjali: Evolution in modern Hindu discourse

11.10.2019 15:15 - 17:00

Dermot Killingley | Newcastle upon Tyne

Darwin's book On the Origin of Species was well-known in India soon after its publication in 1859, and his name soon became associated with "evolution" —though the word does not occur in the first edition of the book. This lecture examines the affinity which Hindu thinkers found between evolution and ancient Indian accounts of the origin of the universe.
