This lecture will explore evidence of the attitudes to and rules concerning caste among the Tantric Śaivas of the early medieval period both in the mainstream Saiddhāntika tradition and in the more Śākta forms of the religion, and will attempt to clarify the nature, extent, and purpose of the varieties of social integration that this evidence implies.
