This lecture will outline the sophisticated way in which the philosophers of the Śaivite Pratyabhijñā tradition chose their adversaries and allies in philosophical discussion. Particular attention will be paid to the philosopher-grammarian Bhartṛhari, the thinkers of the Buddhist pramāṇa tradition and the Nyāya philosophers whose ideas were taken into consideration by the Pratyabhijñā philosophers.
