The presentation will discuss the visual aspects of posters and plaster walls in India in the context of cultural, social and political communication. Specifically, it will take into consideration the political and social problems of contemporary India, together with their solutions, as well as the culture of popular entertainment, inasmuch as they provide a context for visual communication in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural country. It will be demonstrated how the visual vocabulary slowly changes while keeping to the traditional ethos, with a historical focus on post-independence India.
