After an introduction to the living "cult" of deities of fever and blood dysentery in South 24-Parganas, the coastal areas of West Bengal and the outskirts of Calcutta during spring time, Prof. Ghosh will discuss the goddess of small-pox, Śītalā, the god of fever, Jvarāsura, and the goddess of blood dysentery, Raktāvatī under the aspect of their worship and iconography.

With its photographic representations, this lecture will be of interest to a larger audience.
