Máté Ittzés | Department of Indian Studies / Indo-European Linguistics Research Division, Institute of Oriental Studies, Eötvös Loránd University Budapest

This lecture deals with some problems concerning the light verb constructions of Vedic Old Indo-Aryan and Proto-Indo-European. In the first part, I will address the question whether Vedic light verb constructions had well defined grammatical functions in contrast to corresponding simple verbs, or were merely stylistic variants beside them. In the second part, I will investigate the possibility of reconstructing specific light verb constructions for the Proto-Indo-European parent language, in particular from the point of view of reconstruction methodology.
