The lecture will introduce Dwijendranath Tagore (1840-1926), the son of Maharshi Debendranath Tagore and the eldest brother of the poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was a versatile genius. He was a poet, song composer, mathematician and a pioneer in Bengali shorthand and musical notations, but above all a philosopher. He thought much about the fusion of Eastern and Western ideas in several spheres. This marks him as one of the pioneering Orientalists who strove to unite Orient and Occident.
