One hundred years after the famous essay “The Dance of Shiva” by Ananda Coomarasvamy (1877-1947), the time seems ripe to reassess his interpretations.

This multimedial presentation on the Exhibition "Shiva Nataraja – the Cosmic Dancer" for Museum Rietberg in Zuerich (2008-2009) drafts a triple approach to unravel the mesmerizing blend of globally received notions and continuing local Hindu ritual practises. As co-curator, scholar and performing artist Saskia Kersenboom hopes to open up critical, contemporary reflection on Indian dance at large.
