Tashi Bhutia is a University Assistant predoc in Tibetan Studies at the University of Vienna, contributing to research within the EurAsian Transformations cluster. His primary research interests encompass Buddhist life-stories (rnam thar), religious histories (chos ‘byung), and philosophical scriptures, with a particular emphasis on the 15th to 17th centuries in Tibet. He is also keenly interested in translation and interdisciplinary perspectives within these domains. His dissertation explores the life and contributions of chos grags gya tsho, the Seventh Karmapa (1454–1506), a pivotal bka’ brgyud scholar in 15th century Tibet.


Tashi holds an MA in Religious Studies from McGill University (2024) and a BA in Buddhist Studies from Mewar University in collaboration with Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (2018). He completed eight years of study in Tibetan Literature and Sutric Philosophy at Diwakar Buddhist Institute in Kalimpong (2010).
