Donnerstag, 7.6.2018, 17:00-18:30, SR 1 TB

This lecture will present a broad survey of the archaeological evidence of funerary practices, starting with the protohistoric period, i.e., the “Gandhara Grave Culture” in the North-West of the subcontinent and the Iron age funerary monuments of the Deccan and Southern India. The lecture will conclude with the treatment of Rajput memorial pavilions (chattrī) and funerary stelae, and “hero-stones” and “sati-stones” relating to violent death.
