The main aim of the lecture is to inform about the whereabouts of the famous Beijing Sandalwood Buddha (a wooden statue of Buddha Shakyamuni located in Beijing until 1900) in connection with the Zandan Zhuu Buddha (a wooden statue located nowadays in Buryatia, Russian Federation). The Zandan Zhuu Buddha is of Chinese origin and about two hundred years old. It was allegedly transported from China to Buryatia during the second half of 1900, and placed in the monastery in January 1901. Thus the question arises whether the Zandan Zhuu Buddha is identical with the Beijing Sandalwood Buddha.
