Support of Non-Profit Projects
Kshema Rehabilitation Training Centre (KRTC)
The KRTC is located in Chettupattu (Tamilnadu, South India). Established as a society since 1988, its parent body is the St. Thomas Hospital and Leprosy Centre. The KRTC facilitates the socio-economic rehabilitation of persons who have been cured of leprosy and the socio-economic integration of persons with other physical challenges by providing them with short and long-term job-oriented courses with stipends. The courses include handloom weaving, grass-mat weaving, block-printing, wood-carving, embroidery and cane work. The goods produced are marketed locally and abroad, and the income generated is utilized to sustain the KTRC.
The ISTB supports the KRTC primarily through the sale of its products. A small selection of hand-made items is on display in the hall of the South Asian side of the Department. These items can be bought in the South Asia Department Office, where the KRTC catalogue, as well as reading material on the KRTC and the St. Thomas Hospital and Leprosy Centre, is also available. Donations may also be made to the KRTC. All proceeds from the sales of the KRTC products and from donations are regularly and personally handed over to the KRTC by employees of the ISTB.
Tabo Buddhist Monastery
The ISTB and Tabo monastery (Himachal Pradesh, India) have been in close contact since the beginning of the 1990s. Contributions have been made to the costs of training young monks since 1991. In 1992/1993 finances were donated for the construction of a school.
'A Short Guide to the Sudhana Frieze in the Temple of Ta pho,' a special publication of the Association for Tibetan and Buddhist Studies (ATBS), and a set of 8 postcards with motifs from the wall paintings of the monastery may each be obtained for a donation of 10 Euro (Students: 8 Euro). This income, as well as that from other donations (see the account number at the bottom of the page), is personally handed over to Tabo Monastery by employees of the ISTB.
